Polyisocyanurate is also referred to as PIR, polyiso, or ISO.<\/p>\n
It is a thermoset plastic which is commonly produced as a foam and used as a rigid form of thermal insulation. Its chemical composition is similar to polyurethane.<\/p>\n
Properties<\/strong><\/p>\n PIR has a relatively strong molecular structure because of the combination of strong chemical bonds. It has greater stiffness than can be found in most Polyurethanes. It\u2019s greater bond strength also means it is more difficult to break. PIR is chemically and thermally more stable.<\/p>\n PIR typically has an MDI\/polyol ratio, also called its index higher than 180. By comparison PUR indices are normally around 100. As the index increases material stiffness also increases. This means it is more suitable for use where greater rigidity is required and\/or enhanced thermal stability is desirable.
